Microbiome 101

You are more than human.

Your body hosts about 38 trillion microbes — bacteria, fungi and viruses — most of them in your gut. Together they weigh about as much as your brain and do work you can't do yourself: fermenting fibre into short-chain fatty acids, training your immune system, making vitamins, and talking to your brain through the gut-brain axis.

Probiotic vs. prebiotic vs. synbiotic

  • Probiotics are live microorganisms that, in adequate amounts, confer a health benefit.
  • Prebiotics are compounds that feed beneficial microbes.
  • Synbiotics combine both — that's what DS-01® is.

Why most probiotics don't work

Stomach acid kills most bacteria before they reach the colon. DS-01® uses a two-in-one capsule: the outer capsule carries prebiotics and shields the inner capsule, which delivers 24 strains where they're needed.
